Have you ever looked back at a conversation and realized, “that was clearly just 2 egos going head to head?” One ego trying to convince another ego of a point of view is always unproductive, because each ego is invested in getting a win. Neither is willing to back down and seem like a loser.

Click on the image for more context.

We raise our voice when we get caught in the trap of believing that we need to “win” at any cost, that we need to take control of the other person’s reaction. We mistakenly equate being loud with being heard.

Lean into what your heart “feels” says Rumi. Not just the “good” feelings but the hard ones too, especially the painful feelings! When it hurts, go there, allow it to be felt even if it feels that your heart will break, actually dare it to break! Be there for your heart when it breaks and you will learn that your heart doesn’t, it cannot actually break, it can only break open.

It is when you have overcome the fear of feeling that you experience how your willingness to feel EVERYTHING always leads you back to “feeling” the wholeness that IS your soul. – pierre –

True growth lies not in suppressing our emotions, but in embracing them as doorways to a more authentic and fulfilling life.

Finding the sweet spot between effort on the one hand, and ease on the other, is an ongoing journey. The good news is, it’s entirely possible to learn how to excel without feeling like you’re constantly pushing uphill.

You can do your best without trying so damn hard. It’s a balance that we only find through experience. We have to feel and adjust… feel and adjust…

We have to understand that our options are to either contribute to the hate in the world, or contribute to the love in the world. And if our response to what is “wrong” in the world is an aggressive finger pointing and attacking, then we are just contributing to the disease of division.

When I am holding on to the thought of what this moment “should have been”… then I am not in this moment. I am “trying” to be in some other moment that doesn’t exist.

For various reasons we might have built our own inner walls against love, not because we don’t want to feel love but because there were other things – that were painful – that we didn’t want to feel. But our hearts don’t work this way, we can’t close our heart to only some things and keep it open to others, we either live with our hearts wide open feeling everything, or our hearts slowly keep closing until we feel nothing. Very often this leads to a belief that, “I am not worthy of being loved” or “I am unlovable” which are such difficult walls to break down.

Your thoughts are the source of the matrix that you live in. Old programming, old patterns produce the same old thinking on repeat every day, and the only way to escape the matrix is to step away from the thoughts and take a good look at them. But here’s the trick to escaping the matrix – do not judge any of the thinking. – pierre –

Click on the image for more context.

If you want to be free from “The Matrix” you have to be able to watch your own thoughts as they come into being and choose, “will I react in the same old pattern as before, or will I choose to respond in a new way?” This is true freedom of choice. – pierre –

Here is a promise though, if you don’t turn away in fear but come back to silence again and again, all of those old layers start to soften. It could be a long process but over time everything that is not YOU – will dissolve, until it becomes clear that what you are left with is the divine creature that you really are. – pierre –

To be effective, we must change the things we can, and let go the things we can’t. But when “doing” is our default, and we act before we think, how will we know when to do and when to don’t? – pierre –

Wu Wei is not about the absence of action, it’s about taking the right action at the right time by being in touch with the flow of things. But while we are unable to be at peace within discomfort, our own compulsions will always trick us into jumping the gun. – pierre –

Being present in this moment requires me to let go of my idea of “what this moment should have been”. Subconsciously we always form an expectation of what we’d like a moment to be, this is not “wrong” it’s just what a brain does but if I don’t catch myself I’ll end up spending all my energy on an idea that has followed me from the past, leaving me without energy to deal effectively with the present. – pierre –

We are always chasing some kind of goal – and goals are not bad – but we have to realize that our goals are often what dictates how we spend our time, and by the end of our lives we’ll have a small collection of goals reached, but we will have spent an inordinate amount of time in the process of chasing those goals. This process shapes us! Who are you becoming in your process? – pierre –

How we spend our time is who we become and at the end of our lives we will have become the sum total of the processes we were involved in.  – pierre –

The journey back to self-trust isn’t about acquiring something new – it’s about returning to what was always there. You were born as pure potential, the embodiment of love, proof of abundance manifested in human form. This essence hasn’t disappeared; it’s simply been covered by layers of conditioning and stories filled with fear. – pierre –

As a biological system, your human architecture is beautifully designed for survival first and foremost! Like any other animal your brain makes a big deal about the information that says anything about your ability to survive. And to this end, since you were born you’ve been learning from the world around you what you need to know in order to survive. – pierre –

… these old recordings from the past shaped how you see yourself, and they speak loudly within you still, reminding you of what you were told was true about you. But these stories were never the truth of who you are, they were just the reactions of the imperfect humans around you who were themselves acting and reacting from their own past woundedness.   – pierre –

Even with the best of parental intentions, as kids we are likely to associate love with who we need to be for the people who raise us. – pierre –

Ask a hundred people to describe what love is, and you’re likely to get a hundred different answers. It can be a complicated topic because for most of us, our history with love is well… complicated… – pierre –

When you finally come to the very deep realization that the only acceptance that you need is from YOU, then your wholeness becomes something that is established from within, and then love is no longer something that you need, but something that you share. – pierre –

Click on the image for more context.

While we believe that our wholeness is dependent on something or someone being added to our lives, we will always be disappointed in the humans around us – because no one is perfect enough to always say just the right thing. And also, we’ll always be disappointed in ourselves too – because when we feel rejected, it must mean that we’re not good enough. – pierre –

It’s easy to see how the meaning we make of love becomes distorted, how “love” becomes a desperate transaction that buys approval but always feels as though it’s about to slip out of our grasp. We have learned that without the acceptance of some other human we are incomplete. – pierre –

We first learn about love in our childhood homes where from a kid’s perspective, it’s so easy to feel like love is something we need to earn – we’re loved when we’re “good” but we’re rejected when we’re “bad”. – pierre –

Whenever we become confused, we can trust that we’ve fallen into the trap of thinking too much. And for me personally, I often don’t recognize walking into the trap until I’ve wound myself up tightly in its snare. When my brain has become busier and busier and my thoughts become less clear, I often succumb to the belief that I just need to think harder, I need to think “better” thoughts. – pierre –

The nice, neatly wrapped little package we’ve always been trying to show the world starts to unravel and we come face to face with what’s inside, and this is why most people want to look away… because we’ve been taught to wear the masks, that the world will accept the pretty smile but not what’s underneath. And what makes it worse is that we started to believe it too! Don’t look away, don’t turn your head, stay… – pierre –

In every moment that an old programme, an old pattern, decides the action we take – we will continue to recreate the past. And in every moment that we recognize the old reaction and stop in order to choose a new response, we are breaking free from the past – we are creating a new future! – pierre –

Our minds often try to force solutions, but inner wisdom speaks in a quieter language. To hear it, we need to create a calm inner environment, like stilling a pond to see the reflections clearly. – pierre –

It’s our natural response to use our brain to try and ‘think’ up the answers, but have you tried finding answers by NOT thinking? The key to unlocking your inner wisdom lies in creating space for it to be heard. Embrace a practice of silence, and learn to discern that quiet voice from the noise of your thoughts. – pierre –

Recently I’ve been working with quite a number of clients who’ve lost love ones, and it’s clear how love and grief are intertwined… we can’t have one without the other, our grief is a direct reflection of the depth of our love. It doesn’t make it hurt less, but we can honour the grief as a natural extension of what it means to love. – pierre –

Click on the image for more context.

If there’s love, there will be grief. When we experience grief it is proof of the love we have felt. Grief is the natural continuation of love and we should have the same appreciation for grief as we have for love because they are one and the same. Grief simply invites you to extend your love over a greater distance. – pierre –

Click on the image for more context.

Grief is a voice that says, “this is what I used to love SO much!” In that way grief is what we feel when our love gets confronted with distance. For your Soul, time and space is meaningless and it has no problem loving over distance. But if your body is not allowed to feel into its grief, then the body will prevent you from feeling into the expansive love of the Soul. – pierre –

Whatever I practice, I become better at. If I consistently practice resistance toward everything I don’t want to feel, then I’m becoming better at feeling stressed, feeling anxious and creating a storm in my pond. However, if what I’m practicing is to accept the feeling without resistance, knowing I’ll be OK even if this feeling is not “nice”… then what I’m getting better at is having a calm mind. I’m creating a more consistently calm pond. – pierre –

Every decision you make to spend some time in silence is by its very nature the overcoming of compulsion. Spending time in silence and just observing will highlight just how old patterns fire up and come alive. The more time you spend as the observer, the more choice you have over whether you want to go along with the old pattern, or choose a new way to respond. – pierre –

Everything that happens in your world this week, offers you one of these two choices – either shrink, shut down and become smaller through the experience, or grow through the experience! Open up and expand through what you’re experiencing. – pierre –

Click on the image for more context.

Your own inner resistance to what you’re experiencing, is what determines whether you are likely to shrink or grow. In resistance your nervous system goes into fight-or-flight, your muscles become tense and your brain will make available only thoughts about fighting or running. You are physically and mentally closing up and the messaging you carry forward with you is, “I am in trouble”, “Life is scary”, “I am unsafe”. – pierre –

Click on the image for more context.

If growth is what you want then you have to become open. You have to become accepting of whatever the experience is. You need to take a deep breath, deliberately soften your body and then lean in. Decide what is the messaging that you want to carry forward with you from this experience and consciously speak to yourself in THAT voice, “I’ve got this”, “I am safe”, “Even if I don’t like the experience, I won’t resist it”, “I can ask for help”, “I can do this”.  – pierre –

Knowledge (or what we think we know) is often the killer of consciousness, while the acceptance of not knowing is what makes us open to seeing, “when we somehow find ourselves completely available, when we become openhearted and open-minded, and are willing to entertain the possibility that we may not know what we think we know”, THAT is when grace and wisdom finds us. – pierre –

If you feel Anger it’s because some part of you is angry. If you feel Sadness it’s because some part of you is sad. These emotions come up within us for a reason, and usually the reason is that something inside of us feels scared. – pierre –

You are a vast being, an ocean of potential. Your thoughts are merely the ripples on the surface and if you let yourself be trapped by the labels you put on those thoughts, then you’ll spend your life thrashing about in the shallows, and never experience the depths of your being. – pierre –

Imagine learning to swim for the first time. Your natural instinct might be to grab at the water, to fight against its fluid nature, to demand control over something that cannot be controlled. But here’s what every swimming instructor knows: you can’t learn to swim by battling the water. The breakthrough comes when you surrender your body to the water, when you trust that it’s there to hold you, when you find a rhythm with its natural flow. This is where true empowerment begins – not from a place of frantic control, but from a place of calm cooperation with the forces around us.

Because of our minds’ tendency to dwell on old wounds from the past or fret over fears about the future, we need to spend some time training our brains to pay attention to what is happening right here, right now where the actions we take, can have a real effect.   – pierre –

It’s not just that you need to have the heart of a warrior… a warrior’s heart is what you already have! It is still beating! It has fought for your every breath and it will continue to fight for your body for years to come. It’s time you recognize your heart for the warrior that it is and learn to trust it. Drop from your head into your open heart, there is a wisdom there that will guide you. – pierre –

You have a mountain within you – your immovable centre from where it’s easier to see what needs doing and what needs not-doing. You have to practice walking the path to this mountain because it’s not always immediately obvious. Practice every day, don’t wait for the storm to come before you seek refuge in your mountain. If you don’t become really good at finding the path on the beautiful sunny days, it will be very hard to find when the storms come. – pierre –

We were conceived in a messy puddle of human bodily fluid. For our whole lives we have daily routines to try and deal with our own constant presence of messy human bodily fluid. And then we go to the supermarket to buy toilet paper, tampons or condoms and we try and hide these from the view of people around us, so that they don’t see we have messy human bodily fluid to deal with on the daily… I’ve always found this rather silly, our pretending to one another that we’re not really human. – pierre –

Wisdom is to be found in our ability to balance the paradoxes of life. – pierre –

The path forward is not about finding perfect certainty in every situation. It’s about developing the wisdom to dance gracefully between opposing forces – strength and vulnerability, action and surrender, holding on and letting go – trusting that our inner guidance will illuminate the way. In this dance, we discover that we are not separate from the divine – we are expressions of it, temporarily having forgotten our true nature. – pierre –

This is really ancient wisdom, whether from the Vedas, Lao Tzu, Rumi or countless more – love is not something you can search for and find. Love is something that you are, but if you don’t like yourself much, love seems to always be out of your reach.  – pierre –

Conquering yourself isn’t about suppressing fear or pretending it doesn’t exist. It’s about developing a healthier relationship with fear – recognizing it as information rather than instruction. We can create from a place of fear or we can create from a place of freedom. The problem with fear as a motivator is that we are trying to create while looking over our shoulder, and then the best we can ever do is only just escape punishment or bad consequences. With fear in the driver’s seat we’re unable to see the possibilities available to us and will never create to our true potential. – pierre –

The sad truth is that for the most part we were all taught the following lesson, “no you’re not allowed to just be human!” We all hold too much shame, guilt and self judgement over everything that we’ve ever done ‘wrong’, and it’s only when we can look at our own shortcomings with kindness that we’re able to allow the people around us to also just be human. – pierre –

It tends to be true that talking to ourselves harshly comes quite naturally, yet it seems ‘weird’ to deliberately talk to ourselves in a positive way. Surrender IS how we free ourselves from being controlled. Surrender allows us to be OK despite what is happening around us. Surrender teaches us that we can even be happy in the middle of the storm. Your SOUL does not walk around in pain thinking about all the trauma that has happened, and while we should certainly not ignore the body and its scars, we have the freedom to choose where to find our identity – Am I identified with the body and all of its wounding, or am I being the expression of this SOUL? – pierre –

Every day is an opportunity to create again! You don’t have to be perfect at it, but you do have to be committed to trying again and again and again! I’m not doing a comparison to try and say that you are “better” than a tree or a flower, but I am suggesting that when your old limiting beliefs show up trying to convince you that you are not good enough that you remember this… If you are able to stand in awe at the very limited expression of a flower or a tree, then you should be able to stand in awe at the limitless expression of your own beautiful human form. – pierre –
