A celebration of weird!

This inspiring article is a breezy 2-minute read! But hey, if you’re feeling adventurous and have a few extra moments, we’ve got a whole menu of other goodies to nibble on.

A message from today’s meditation:

Fridays are a celebration of LOVE!

And today is specifically a celebration of YOU…

“A CELEBRATION OF WEIRD. Don’t become a spiritual zombie, devoid of passion and deep human feeling. Let spirituality become a celebration of your uniqueness rather than a repression of it. Never lose your quirkiness, your strangeness, your weirdness – your unique and irreplaceable flavour. Don’t try or pretend to be ‘no-one’ or ‘nothing’ or some transcendent and impersonal non-entity with ‘no self’ or ‘no ego’, ‘beyond the human’ – that’s just another conceptual fixation and nobody’s buying it any more. Be a celebration of what your unique expression is and stop apologising. Fall in love with this perfectly divine, very human mess that you are. There is no authority here, and no way to get life wrong. So get it all wrong. Fail, gloriously.” – Jeff Foster

“Love is all that matters. The rain falls, stars explode in silence somewhere out in the vastness of space, and here on this tiny planet someone called Earth, sometimes we meet and hold each other.” – Jeff Foster

We all have the right to choose who we want to be and use that choice to build the life that we envision. But what do we base this choice on, how did we come to the conclusion of what kind of life we want to live? Did we look outwardly until we found an example that we can emulate and say “THAT… that is who I want to be?”

This is of course a completely valid way to find our place in the world but we run the risk of making our decision based on something that looked good from a distance, without having the personal experience that understands what that life would require from us.

The other option is to look inward and learn that “there is something that I already am”, but perhaps don’t fully understand yet. Your soul already has its unique expression which can be found in exploring all of the things that light you up, that make you come alive!

I want to add that inspiring thought by, Howard Thurman:

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do that! Because what the world needs is more people who have fully come alive.” – Howard Thurman

By all means look outside of yourself for ideas on what to explore as a starting point, but check-in within yourself to understand how your soul responds. Your soul already IS a unique signature, a distinctive way of experiencing and contributing to the world. This authentic self reveals itself through the things that genuinely light you up, that make you feel most alive and engaged. Your soul’s response to different possibilities is your most reliable guide.

You are at your BEST when you understand exactly who you are, and decide to unapologetically double down on the expression of your soul.

To quote Jeff Foster once again: “Be a celebration of what your unique expression is and stop apologising. Fall in love with this perfectly divine, very human mess that you are. There is no authority here, and no way to get life wrong. So get it all wrong. Fail, gloriously.”

If you really are able to fall in love with all of YOU, you’ll become the strongest version of yourself that you have ever been! And your authentic presence will create a welcoming space that holds safety for those around you.

Mantras for embracing your weird:

  • “My weirdness is my strength.” Let this mantra empower you to shed societal expectations and embrace your unique qualities.
  • “I am a work in progress, beautifully messy and perfectly me.” Celebrate the journey of self-discovery and embrace the imperfections that make you who you are.
  • “Every day is an opportunity to explore and express my authentic self.” Commit to living a life that explores the things that uniquely light you up.

We invite you to join our circle of love, not with a carefully curated persona, but with your wonderfully weird and messy self. Bring your quirks, your passions, and your beautiful imperfections. Here, you are loved and accepted exactly as you are.

Today’s LIVE meditation is: Sharing love.

A moment of reflection

(If you have the time, use this question as a journal prompt, because whenever you put pen to paper you’re wiring the neural pathways that create your new habits. But if you don’t have the time, just take a moment to reflect on your response.)

The Authority Within: Jeff Foster reminds us that “there is no authority here, and no way to get life wrong.” Reflect on the external authorities (family, society, culture, religion, etc.) that have shaped your beliefs about who you should be. What messages did you internalize about success, worthiness, and acceptable ways of living? Then shift your focus inward: What does your inner wisdom tell you about the life you want to live? If you truly believed there was no “wrong” way to be yourself, what would you dare to explore or express? What would you stop apologizing for?

Q&A for deeper learning

1. What does it mean to be a “spiritual zombie” and how do I avoid becoming one?

A spiritual zombie is someone who uses spiritual practices or personal development to suppress their humanity rather than celebrate it. This happens when you try to transcend your emotions, quirks, and personality in pursuit of some “perfect” spiritual ideal. Instead of numbing your feelings or apologizing for your uniqueness, authentic spirituality should amplify what makes you genuinely you. Avoid this by checking whether your spiritual practices make you feel more alive and connected to your authentic self, rather than disconnected from your human experience.

2. How do I know if I’m following my authentic path or just copying someone else’s success?

The key difference lies in your internal response. When you’re copying someone else, you might feel excited about the external rewards but disconnected from the day-to-day reality of that path. Authentic paths can certainly still be hard work and feel very challenging, but if you’re aligned with your being then even the hard work will energize you and feel like a natural expression of who you are. Ask yourself: “Does this light me up from the inside, or am I drawn to it because of how it looks from the outside?” Your soul’s genuine enthusiasm is your most reliable compass.

3. What if my “weirdness” isn’t socially acceptable or might hurt my career?

This is where discernment comes in. Embracing authenticity doesn’t mean being reckless with your livelihood or relationships. Start by expressing your authentic self in safe spaces – with trusted friends, in creative outlets, or in communities that celebrate uniqueness. You can gradually expand these circles as you build confidence. Remember, many successful people attribute their achievements to the unique perspectives their “weirdness” provided. Your authenticity might be exactly what sets you apart professionally.

4. How can I “fail gloriously” without being irresponsible?

Failing gloriously means approaching challenges with courage and learning from setbacks without self-judgment. It’s about taking meaningful risks in service of your growth, not being careless with important responsibilities. This might mean starting a creative project that might not succeed, having honest conversations that feel vulnerable, or pursuing opportunities that stretch your comfort zone. The key is choosing failures that teach you about yourself and move you toward authenticity, rather than failures that harm others or ignore your obligations.

5. What if I don’t know what my authentic self looks like yet?

This is completely normal and actually part of the beautiful journey. Your authentic self isn’t a fixed destination but an ongoing exploration. Start by paying attention to what genuinely energizes you versus what drains you. Notice when you feel most “like yourself” and when you feel like you’re performing. Experiment with different activities, creative expressions, and ways of being. Your authentic self will reveal itself through this process of curious exploration rather than through intellectual analysis.

6. How do I deal with people who don’t accept my authentic self?

Not everyone will appreciate your authentic expression, and that’s okay. Jeff Foster reminds us there’s “no authority” dictating how you should be – this includes people who are uncomfortable with your authenticity. Focus on building relationships with people who celebrate your genuine self while maintaining healthy boundaries with those who don’t. Remember that your authentic presence gives others permission to be real too, so you might be surprised by how many people are actually drawn to your genuineness.

7. Can embracing my weirdness really make me stronger, or is this just feel-good advice?

Embracing your authentic self creates genuine strength because it eliminates the exhausting energy drain of pretending to be someone you’re not. When you’re not constantly monitoring and adjusting your behavior to fit others’ expectations, you have more energy available for creativity, connection, and pursuing what matters to you. Additionally, your unique perspective and approaches become assets rather than liabilities. Many breakthrough innovations and meaningful contributions come from people who dared to be different. Your “weirdness” isn’t just acceptable – it’s often your greatest strength.
