Take a look at your week ahead and exclaim loudly: “I choose to expand!”

“Your Daily Dose” is a quick two minute read packed with bite-sized wisdom from all the great teachers. But you could also choose to turn it into something more… a powerful daily practice for personal growth. Give it a try!

A message from today’s meditation:

Let’s jumpstart the week!

The alarm clock blares, pulling you from the dream world. A new week unfolds, a canvas waiting for your brushstrokes of intention and action. But here’s the question that will determine everything: will you spend this week wasting your energy on trying to control what’s uncontrollable, or will you choose something far more powerful – expansion?

Contemporary spiritual teacher Mooji offers a view that can transform how we approach the start of this new week. His teachings remind us that true growth doesn’t come from wrestling life into submission, but from expanding our consciousness to embrace life in whatever shape or form it comes our way. I hope you love his work as much as I do.

“The wise one does not try to control life and is not controlled by life. His heart is full and serene knowing that life takes care of life.” – Mooji

“All the ups and downs are grace in different wrappings, sent to refine your consciousness. Say thank you to them all.” – Mooji

“Know within your heart that your life is tailor-made for your awakening.” – Mooji

The week ahead will inevitably bring its mix of triumphs and setbacks, smooth sailing and unexpected storms. The difference between those who thrive and those who merely survive lies not in what happens to them, but in how they choose to meet each moment.

That difficult conversation you’re dreading? An opportunity to practice regulating your nervous system during stress. The project that seems overwhelming? A chance to discover your own resilience. The unexpected change of plans? An invitation to remain present and embrace flexibility.

Every challenge, every joy, every seemingly random occurrence holds the seeds of your growth. Your specific combination of experiences, relationships, and obstacles are the ingredients that you will use to become who you’re meant to be.

Accept every difficulty as a personal invitation to step up to a new level of consciousness, that recognizes your opportunity for growth.

Mooji’s advice for this week could be summed up as:

Don’t try to control things that are beyond your control and remember that whatever you encounter always offers you one of two paths, “will this experience make me close down and contract? Or will this experience make me open up and expand?”

Take a look at your week ahead and exclaim loudly! “I choose to expand!” Choose to see the challenge as an opportunity for growth. Choose to respond with resilience and grace.

As you navigate this new week, repeat these mantras as a reminder:

  • “I am open to the possibilities that life presents.”
  • “I trust that the universe is supporting my growth.”
  • “I choose to respond to challenges with an open heart”.
  • “Every experience, positive or negative, holds the potential for expansion.”

By embracing the unknown and choosing to expand, we embark on a journey of self-discovery that makes life a vibrant, ever-unfolding adventure.

Practice the “Daily Dose”

Let’s put it into practice! Choose what works for you – daily, once a week or whenever inspiration strikes. Putting pen to paper wires the neural pathways that will create your new habits.

1 – Affirmation

Write down your favourite affirmation on a sticky note and place it somewhere that you’ll be able to see it the whole day.

  • “I am open to the possibilities that life presents.”
  • “I trust that the universe is supporting my growth.”
  • “I choose to respond to challenges with an open heart”.
  • “Every experience, positive or negative, holds the potential for expansion.”

2 – A moment of reflection

Use today’s question as a journal prompt. If you don’t have the time to sit down and write, just take a moment to reflect on your response.

Your Personal Growth Curriculum: Mooji teaches that “your life is tailor-made for your awakening.” Examine your current challenges and relationships as if they were specifically designed for your growth – How might your greatest struggles actually be pointing you toward opportunities for growth? What are the recurring themes or challenges in your life right now? If you viewed these challenges as perfectly designed lessons, what might they be trying to teach you? What qualities or strengths are these experiences asking you to develop? How will your current experiences help you expand?

3 – Quotes to share

Send a quote to someone who needs it, or share them all on social media to spread the good vibes!

4 – Q&A for deeper learning

Read through the questions and answers and write down at least one “aha moment” that clicked for you.

Q1: What does it actually mean to “choose expansion” in practical terms?

Choosing expansion means consciously deciding to remain open, curious, and receptive when faced with challenges instead of closing down or trying to force outcomes. Practically, this might look like asking “What can I learn from this?” instead of “Why is this happening to me?” or choosing to see a setback as redirection rather than failure. It’s about expanding your perspective, emotional capacity, and willingness to grow rather than contracting into fear or control.

Q2: How can I tell the difference between being wise and being passive when I “don’t try to control life”?

Wisdom involves taking inspired action, while not confusing action with control, whereas passivity involves doing nothing at all. A wise person still makes decisions, sets boundaries, and takes responsibility for their choices – they just don’t exhaust themselves trying to control how everything unfolds. Think of it as holding your plans lightly: you still plan and act, but you remain flexible and responsive to what emerges.

Q3: What if choosing expansion feels like I’m just accepting bad treatment or unfair situations?

Expansion doesn’t mean becoming a doormat or accepting abuse. It means expanding your capacity to respond consciously rather than react unconsciously. Sometimes the most expansive choice is setting firm boundaries or walking away from unhealthy situations. The key is responding from a place of strength and clarity rather than fear or anger. True expansion often requires courage to take difficult but necessary actions.

Q4: How do I practically implement this during a really stressful week?

Start small by catching yourself in moments of resistance and asking, “Is this making me contract or expand?” Take three deep breaths before responding to stressful situations. Create small rituals like repeating “I choose to expand” during your morning routine. When overwhelm hits, pause and remind yourself that this moment is part of your growth curriculum. The goal isn’t perfection – it’s awareness and gradual shifts in response patterns.

Q5: What does it mean that “all ups and downs are grace in different wrappings”?

This means that both pleasant as well as challenging experiences serve our growth and evolution. The “downs” aren’t punishments – they’re opportunities to develop resilience, compassion, patience, and wisdom. The “ups” aren’t rewards – they’re chances to practice gratitude, generosity, and joy. Every experience, regardless of how it feels in the moment, contains gifts that can refine our consciousness if we’re willing to receive them.

Q6: How can I believe my life is “tailor-made for my awakening” when it feels random or unfair?

This is where we have to hold two truths at once. Some things that happen to people are not fair, not deserved, and not “meant to be” in any moral sense – a child who suffers abuse did nothing to invite that, and no framework of cosmic tailoring should ever be used to explain, justify, or soften the reality of what was done to her. The unfairness is real, and it deserves to be named as such. But separate from the question of whether an experience was “meant to happen” is the question of what remains afterward to work with – the resilience, compassion, or self-understanding a person may build not because of the harm, but often in spite of it, through their own effort and often with real support from others. So when we talk about growth being “tailor-made,” we’re not saying every event was designed for our benefit; we’re saying that whatever life hands us – chosen or unchosen, fair or unfair – becomes the raw material we’re left to work with. Whatever experience you’ve had, contains the ingredients that you will need to build your life with.

Q7: What should I do when I forget to choose expansion and fall back into old patterns of control?

Having an old pattern surface isn’t failure – it’s neurology doing exactly what it was built to do. Our patterns are old neural pathways, hardwired long before we had any say in the matter, and we should expect them to fire on autopilot without warning, often before we even realize what’s happening. Our real work isn’t to prevent these patterns from ever appearing; it starts with building the awareness to notice when an old pattern has surfaced again. Then, comes the most important part of “the work” – to meet ourselves without judgment for the old programming that we never consciously chose, and then to deliberately select a different, healthier, wiser response in that moment. When we judge ourselves we trigger a “fight-or-flight” response all over again which will select the shortest path to what feels safer right now, in stead of the wiser approach that leads to our long term empowerment. This is the actual practice – not perfect avoidance of old habits, but the repeated, patient act of catching them and choosing again. And the grace we extend ourselves in that catching matters more than it might seem: the more kindness we offer ourselves when old triggers appear, the faster those grooves soften and the sooner we move into a stronger, freer way of being.
