“Your Daily Dose” is a quick two minute read packed with bite-sized wisdom from all the great teachers. But you could choose to turn it into something more… A powerful daily practice for personal growth. Give it a try!
A message from today’s meditation:
Welcome to Monday!
Monday mornings can often feel like a heavy weight, dragging us back into the routine. Yet, embedded within this new dawn is an extraordinary opportunity for growth. Today, we’re invited to shift our perspective, to see challenges not as obstacles, but as springboards for expansion.
Our teacher for this week is Byron Katie, and inspired by her wisdom, let’s explore how to shift our perspective and embrace a week filled with expansion rather than contraction.
“What you’re believing in the moment creates your suffering or your happiness.” – Byron Katie
“Life is simple. Everything happens for you, not to you. Everything happens at exactly the right moment, neither too soon nor too late. You don’t have to like it… it’s just easier if you do.” – Byron Katie
“Until you can see everything in the world as your friend, your work is not done.” – Byron Katie
We have a choice in how we view our circumstances. The story I tell myself about what is happening right now, completely determines either my happiness or my suffering. The words I choose to speak to myself, create the reality that my body experiences.
Life’s challenges are not personal attacks, they come with an invitation to step forward and open up to the learning experience that life offers, and every experience brings opportunity. Every experience brings possibilities for growth if we will see them.
Look into the week ahead and recognize that you have a choice in how you see your circumstances.
We’re starting off this week with these clear and empowering affirmations:
- “I choose to believe that everything is happening FOR me and that when I surrender and ask for clarity I’ll see the opportunity in every situation.”
- “I choose to believe that I live in a friendly universe, not hostile. And everything I encounter can lead to my growth.”
Everything we experience offers us one of two paths: “Will I shut-down and shrink from this experience?” … OR… “Will I open-up and expand through this experience?”
I choose EXPANSION!
Have a great week!

Practice the “Daily Dose”
Let’s put it into practice! Choose what works for you – daily, once a week or whenever inspiration strikes. Putting pen to paper wires the neural pathways that will create your new habits.
1 – Affirmation
Write down your favourite affirmation on a sticky note and place it somewhere that you’ll be able to see it the whole day.
- “I choose to believe that everything is happening FOR me and that when I surrender and ask for clarity I’ll see the opportunity in every situation.”
- “I choose to believe that I live in a friendly universe, not hostile. And everything I encounter can lead to my growth.”
2 – A moment of reflection
Use today’s question as a journal prompt. If you don’t have the time to sit down and write, just take a moment to reflect on your response.
Reframing Your Story: Byron Katie teaches us that “What you’re believing in the moment creates your suffering or your happiness.” Think about a current challenge or situation in your life that’s causing you stress or unhappiness. Write about the story you’re currently telling yourself about this situation. Then, challenge yourself to rewrite this story from the perspective that “everything is happening FOR you.” How might this situation be serving your growth? What opportunities might be hidden within this challenge?
3 – Quotes to share
Send a quote to someone who needs it, or share them all on social media to spread the good vibes!

4 – Q&A for deeper learning
Read through the questions and answers and write down at least one “aha moment” that clicked for you.
1. What does “choosing expansion” actually mean in practical terms?
Choosing expansion means consciously deciding to approach challenges with curiosity and openness rather than resistance and fear. Instead of asking “Why is this happening to me?” you ask “What is this here to teach me?” Practically, this might mean having that difficult conversation you’ve been avoiding, taking on a project that stretches your abilities, or viewing a setback as information rather than failure. It’s about moving toward growth opportunities rather than away from discomfort.
2. How can I tell if I’m contracting versus expanding in a situation?
Contraction typically feels like resistance, fear, overwhelm, or the desire to avoid or escape. Your body might feel tense, your breathing shallow, and your thoughts focused on what could go wrong. Expansion feels like curiosity, possibility, and forward movement, even if there’s nervousness. You feel more open, your breathing is deeper, and you’re focused on what you might learn or gain. The key difference is whether you’re moving toward growth or away from it.
3. Isn’t this just toxic positivity? What about real problems and legitimate suffering?
Not at all. Choosing expansion doesn’t mean denying real problems or pretending everything is fine. It means acknowledging and dealing with difficulties head-on, while also being determined to find growth in the process. You can simultaneously grieve a loss and ask what it’s teaching you about love. You can feel anger about injustice while channeling that energy into meaningful action. The goal isn’t to be happy about everything, but to find empowerment and learning even in difficult circumstances.
4. How do I apply Byron Katie’s quote about everything happening “for” me when bad things happen?
This perspective shift doesn’t minimize pain or suggest you should be grateful for trauma. Instead, it recognizes that while you can’t control what happens to you, you can control how you respond and what meaning you create from it. Something happening “for” you might mean it’s strengthening your resilience, clarifying your values, or preparing you for future challenges. It’s about finding agency and growth potential within circumstances you didn’t choose.
5. What if I choose expansion but still feel afraid or uncertain?
Fear and uncertainty are natural parts of growth—they don’t disappear when you choose expansion. The difference is that instead of letting fear stop you, you acknowledge it and move forward anyway. Expansion doesn’t require the absence of fear; it requires courage in the presence of fear. You can feel nervous about a new opportunity while still recognizing it as a chance to grow. The key is not letting fear make the decision for you.
6. How can I maintain this expansion mindset when I’m surrounded by negative people or situations?
Start by focusing on what you can control—your own thoughts, responses, and choices. You can’t change others, but you can change how you interact with them. Practice seeing difficult people as teachers showing you something about patience, boundaries, or compassion. Create supportive environments where possible, and when you can’t, use challenging situations as opportunities to strengthen your inner resilience. Remember that your energy and perspective can influence others more than you might think.
7. What’s the difference between choosing expansion and just being naive or unrealistic?
Choosing expansion is actually more realistic because it acknowledges that growth comes through challenge, not comfort. It’s not naive optimism—it’s pragmatic wisdom. You’re not pretending problems don’t exist; you’re choosing to find the growth potential within them. This approach leads to better problem-solving because you’re not wasting energy on resistance. You’re engaging with reality more fully, not less, because you’re open to learning from whatever comes your way rather than fighting against it.
