Whatever holds my attention IS my life.

“Your Daily Dose” is a quick two minute read packed with bite-sized wisdom from all the great teachers. But you could also choose to turn it into something more… a powerful daily practice for personal growth. Give it a try!

A message from today’s meditation:

The topic of today’s meditation is focus. Focus is the ability to control where our attention goes, and if we have to summarize our own lives in one short sentence then it might be most accurate to say that, “the life that I live is nothing more than that which consistently captures my attention.”

“Whatever holds my attention, IS my life.” – pierre

If you truly understand the extent to which your life is controlled by what captures your attention, then it becomes abundantly clear that you need to develop the skill to stay focused on the things you choose consciously to build your life around, and not have your attention hijacked by anything unhelpful.

“Always remember, what you focus on determines your reality.” – George Lucas

“The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus.” – Bruce Lee

“Focus on the possibilities for success, not the potential for failure.” – Napoleon Hill

“You don’t get results by focusing on results. You get results by focusing on the actions that produce results.” – Mike Hawkins

“Ignore the noise. Focus on your work.” – Anonymous

In order to be really practical about how we develop laser-like focus, it’s helpful to understand what it is that disturbs our focus, and for this I want to draw your attention to the last quote again – “ignore the noise, focus on your work.”

Even when we’re trying to be deliberate about focussing, noise is what draws our attention away, and noise can be divided into both inner and outer noise.

There is a lot of distraction in the world around us and in the history of humanity, outer noise has only increased and if history is anything to go by, then we can expect the world around us to only ever provide more content to capture our attention. Developing the ability to ignore the noise around you becomes the superpower that gives you the ability to choose what your life becomes.

However when it comes to our inner noise – which captures our attention far more than anything in the world around us – simply ignoring it has never helped anyone step free from the baggage of the past.

When our past always captures our attention, then our lives become a continuous re-living of past experiences, re-creating the same old life over and over again. Paying attention to and healing wounds from the past liberates your attention, and gives you the ability to decide where you place your focus – and where you decide to focus your attention, WILL determine your reality.

Most people’s lives can be described as an ever continuing series of distractions, always scattering their energy down the unhelpful avenues that capture their attention. You can however choose to be the architect of your reality and turn your life into a masterpiece of focused intention.

This is your invitation to build a life aligned with your conscious choices.

Mantras for mastering focus:

  • “My attention is my power. I choose where it goes.”
  • “I acknowledge and heal past wounds to free up my focus for the present.”
  • “External noise may exist, but it doesn’t capture my attention.”
  • “I focus on actions that build the life I desire.”

Today’s meditation is a game of focus. This is your opportunity to exercise your muscle of attention. Let’s choose to focus on what truly matters and create a life we love.

Practice the “Daily Dose”

Let’s put it into practice! Choose what works for you – daily, once a week or whenever inspiration strikes. Putting pen to paper wires the neural pathways that will create your new habits.

1 – Affirmation

Write down your favourite affirmation on a sticky note and place it somewhere that you’ll be able to see it the whole day.

  • “My attention is my power. I choose where it goes.”
  • “I acknowledge and heal past wounds to free up my focus for the present.”
  • “External noise may exist, but it doesn’t capture my attention.”
  • “I focus on actions that build the life I desire.”

2 – A moment of reflection

Use today’s question as a journal prompt. If you don’t have the time to sit down and write, just take a moment to reflect on your response.

Your Attention Superpower: Imagine you’ve fully developed the “superpower” of ignoring external noise and controlling your focus with laser-like precision. Describe in detail what your ideal day would look like with this ability. What would you focus on? What would you ignore? How would your relationships, work, and personal growth change? What’s one small step you can take tomorrow to start developing this superpower?

3 – Quotes to share

Send a quote to someone who needs it, or share them all on social media to spread the good vibes!

4 – Q&A for deeper learning

Read through the questions and answers and write down at least one “aha moment” that clicked for you.

1. What does “whatever holds my attention IS my life” really mean?

This statement captures a profound truth: your life is literally composed of whatever consistently occupies your attention. Everything you’ve achieved, every relationship you’ve built, every skill you’ve developed started with where you directed your focus. Your attention isn’t just a tool for living your life—it IS your life. When you understand this, you realize that learning to control your attention is the same as learning to control the direction and quality of your entire existence.

2. How is inner noise different from outer noise, and which is more important to address?

Outer noise consists of external distractions—social media, news, entertainment, and the ever-increasing digital content competing for your attention. Inner noise, however, comes from within: unhealed wounds, unresolved past experiences, and recurring thought patterns that keep you mentally reliving the past. While both matter, inner noise is actually more powerful and insidious because it captures your attention far more effectively than anything external. You can’t truly control your focus until you acknowledge and heal the internal wounds that keep hijacking it.

3. Why can’t I just “ignore” my inner noise the same way I ignore external distractions?

Simply ignoring inner noise has never helped anyone step free from the baggage of the past. Unlike external distractions that you can turn off or walk away from, inner noise stems from unresolved emotional experiences that need attention, not avoidance. When you try to suppress or ignore these internal voices, they often grow louder and more persistent. True liberation comes from paying attention to these wounds, acknowledging them with compassion, and consciously working through them. Only then can you free up your attention for the present and future.

4. What does it mean to focus on actions rather than results?

Focusing on results means constantly checking outcomes, worrying about whether you’re succeeding, and getting distracted by metrics and endpoints. This actually scatters your energy. Focusing on actions means directing your attention to the daily behaviors, practices, and habits that will eventually produce the results you want. For example, instead of obsessing over losing 20 pounds, you focus your attention on today’s workout and today’s nutritious meals. The results take care of themselves when your attention is properly invested in consistent, result-producing actions.

5. Is it realistic to expect external noise to decrease in my lifetime?

No—and that’s exactly why developing focus is so critical. Throughout human history, outer noise has only increased, and there’s every reason to believe this trend will continue. We’re living in an attention economy where countless companies, platforms, and content creators are competing for your focus. The world isn’t going to get quieter or less distracting. This makes the ability to ignore external noise and control your attention not just helpful, but essential—it’s truly a superpower that separates those who design their lives from those who have their lives designed for them.

6. How do I know if my past is still capturing too much of my attention?

Ask yourself these questions: Do you find yourself replaying old scenarios in your mind regularly? Are you re-creating similar patterns in your relationships or situations? Do certain triggers consistently pull you into emotional states tied to past experiences? Do you make decisions based more on avoiding past pain than pursuing present possibilities? If you answered yes to several of these, your past is likely capturing significant attention that could be redirected. The key indicator is whether you’re living in continuous response to what has been rather than conscious creation of what could be.

7. What’s the first practical step I can take today to master my focus?

Start with awareness. For one full day, notice where your attention goes without judgment. Every time you catch yourself focusing on something—whether it’s a worry, a social media feed, a conversation, or a task—simply note it. This builds the foundational skill of attention awareness. You can’t control what you’re not aware of. By the end of the day, you’ll have a clearer picture of your current attention patterns. From there, choose one small area where you’ll consciously redirect your focus tomorrow. Remember, your attention is your power—but first, you must become aware of where that power is currently flowing.
