We started today’s meditation with this poem:
If the mountain seems too big today then climb a hill instead.
If the morning brings you sadness it’s okay to stay in bed.
If the day ahead weighs heavy and your plans feel like a curse,
there’s no shame in re-arranging don’t make yourself feel worse.
If a shower stings like needles and a bath feels like you’ll drown,
if you haven’t washed your hair for days don’t throw away your crown.
A day is not a lifetime a rest is not defeat,
don’t think of it as failure just a quiet kind retreat.
It’s okay to take a moment from an anxious fractured mind.
The world will not stop turning while you get realigned.
The mountain will still be there when you want to try again,
so climb it in your own time and love yourself till then.

We know it is true that we only grow from stepping out of our comfort zone and subjecting ourselves to pressure. Which is why a popular saying goes: “Adversity creates adaptation.” But what is not talked about enough is that this adaptation is not always in a “positive” direction.
When we step out of that comfort zone, sometimes we grow wings and fly, and sometimes we crash and burn. And whether this experience turns out to be growth or trauma, is dependent on how we look at ourselves lying face down in the dirt, with smoke slowly rising from a badly scorched hairdo.
When you fall are your first thoughts, “See I knew I shouldn’t have even tried, I always fuck up! Stupid, stupid, STUPID! You should have learned by now!” Falling down doesn’t automatically equal growth, but the love and care with which you pick up and nurse your crumpled body does. It lies in the wisdom of knowing when to put your foot firmly on the accelerator, and when to take it off.
Both climbing and resting are necessary, and learning how to really love your “self”, is what will make it increasingly clear when to climb and when to rest.
