Can you ‘be’ with it?

here’s a message from today’s meditation:

“Instead of “Let it go,” we should probably say “Let it be”; this recognizes that the mind won’t let go and the problem may not go away, and it allows you to form a healthier relationship with what’s bothering you.” – Jon Kabat-Zinn

The question that l like to ask is, “Can you be with it? Can you just be with it without the need to change it? Without the compulsion to run away and be somewhere else?”

The truth is that when we can’t be with it, when we compulsively act, then we’re really stuck in an old survival programme. Just take a step back for a moment and see that when you’re in that old programme you’re not really making any conscious decisions, you’re letting a programme make your decisions for you, and they’re probably the same old decisions as in the past.

When you find that you can “be with it” without being unhappy, without fighting, without even resisting the reality of what just is, then you’ll also find that you have more room to move than you thought you did. That you can actually relax your shoulders and breathe. Here you will find clarity. And it is only inside of this clarity that you have the conscious awareness to exercise your freedom of choice.

Can you just be with it?
